Review:

The Girl with the Lower Back tattoo is the [AMAZING] writing debut of [also AMAZING] Amy Schumer. This book is about and by my most favorite person in the entire planet and it turned to be awesome. It is a collection of well-written essays narrated with unfaltering honesty and humor coming from a person who, in her own words, is a "brave-ass chick". This book takes us through the life of Amy and how she perceived it as a person.

The essays in the book range from 'An Open Letter to Vagina', 'Times It's Okay for a Man to Not Make a Woman Come During Sex' and 'Rider for the Funeral of Amy Schumer'. Amy tells her about her experiences as a child with divorced parents, her relationship with her parents, friends and boyfriend(s!), a stand-up comedian, actress, waitress, pedicab driver, one-night stand and a lot more. This book has a collection of her private photographs that allow the reader to experience what she experienced. As I also used the audiobook, I could feel the emotions that Amy was feeling, perfectly.

Just through the course of about 320 pages, Amy is successful in her attempt to make the reader laugh until they need to wipe tears off, ugly-cry and feel a lot of other emotions... She also manages to talk about a lot of delicate issues with absolute ease and perfection, like Gun-Violence and Domestic Abuse. As a person who has been following Amy for a really significant time, I expected a LOT from this book and she was not only able to reach that level of expectation, but also surpass it flawlessly. This book also contains some hilarious lists of things like what we don't know about her, what makes her insanely furious and what makes her happy. Basically, this is a guide to know an amazing person that is Amy Schumer.

CONCLUSION: Amy's wit, sarcasm and her perception of the universe is unique and without a doubt - notable. This makes the book a HIGHLY RECOMMENDED title for anyone who is comfortable reading about Amy's vagina. Just kidding. There is a reason why this book has been on the New York Times Bestseller List for the time it has.

#Review - A Torch Against the Night - Sabaa Tahir

Rating:

4/5 Book Emojis

This review is a proud part of Penguin Random House's A Torch Against the Night Global Book Tour.

Format:

*Note: I was sent a review copy of the book from Penguin Random House (thanks!) for an UNBIASED review. The views expressed here are solely my own.

This book is the sequel to the New York Times Bestseller An Ember in the Ashes. It continues exactly where the first installment of the series left off and is narrated by the three main characters - Laia (the slave girl), Elias (the Aspirant Martial) and Helene (an Aspirant Martial and Elias' former friend). It goes through Laia and Elias' journey as they flee the city of Serra to free Laia's brother Darin who was captured by the Martials, for being accused of being a spy, in a raid at their home.

What's different about this book is that it is narrated in a way that it goes in a flow through the chapters, unlike An Ember in the Ashes, in which some chapters are just the same incident being narrated by either Laia or Elais to show the reader their perspectives. The pace of the story fluctuates like a rollercoaster ride that every reader will enjoy. The beginning of the book is already intense and the pace slows down through the first half. This, however falters the interest of the book for a significant while, unlike AEITA. In the second half, fortunately, the book gets insanely fast-paced and the story unfolds itself through twists and turns that left my jaw hanging loose from my face.

The crispness of the book stays intact till the very end but is fiercer than its predecessor. What I liked most about this book was how the chapters ended in a way that would make sure of the reader to read further into the book... The characters remain strongly rooted in this installment to the series too... Their essence is strong enough to keep the reader craving to intently read what they narrate to them.

CONCLUSION: From what I believe, you should get both the copies of this series yet written and released. Trust me, it's worth it.

Blog Tours are fun, especially when they're international and the books are written by @sabaatahir and published by the lovelies at @penguinrandomhouse / @riverheadbooks πŸŒˆπŸ’–πŸŒˆπŸ’–πŸŒˆπŸŒˆπŸ’–πŸŒˆπŸ’–πŸŒˆπŸ’–πŸŒˆπŸ’–πŸŒˆπŸ’–πŸŒˆπŸŒˆπŸ’–πŸŒˆπŸ’–πŸŒˆπŸ’–πŸŒˆ Currently reading 'An Ember in the Ashes' by Sabaa Tahir 😊 P.S.
